“River+Peace, Happiness 100” Pingtung County Gaushu Township Jiouliao Lot Embankment Completion Ceremony and Agricultural rehabilitation and industry marketing activities in preparation for the countdown

This month (March) 27th , the Pingtung County Gaushu Township Jiouliao Lot Embankment project’s “River+Peace, Happiness 100” completion ceremony and agricultural rehabilitation and industry marketing activities will be held. Deputy CEO Chern of Reconstruction Council, invited the Water Resources Agency, the county government, local governments and other relevant organizations to discuss the activities of the day and the status of preparation, hoping the entire reconstruction process will "return the land to the people " and the subsequent local industry will be driven out as a result of the warm participation of the community on that day.

In 2010, Typhoon Morakot devastated Southern Taiwan, causing the collapse of the 2560-meter embankment of the Laonong River at the Jiuliao Section of Kaoshu Township, and 50 hectares of farmland loss. Not only did the disaster threaten the safety of life and property of the citizens of Kaoshu Township, it also affected the livelihood of farmers. The Reconstruction Council  was particularly concerned about the safety of Kaoshu residents, and instructed MOFA’s Water Resources Agency to begin reconstruction of the embankment as soon as possible, and remove the gravel siltation of the farmlands to facilitate the rehabilitation of farming activities. In addition, such a return to farming must be completed before the high tide season of this year (2011). Under the supervision of the Reconstruction Council and the Seventh River Bureau under the Water Resource Agency, the Jiuliao Embankment construction was completed before schedule on January 17th of this year. The completion of such a project will provide protection for the lives and properties of Hsinfen Village, Jiuliao Village and Tsailiao Village of Kaoshu Township’s 1200 households (4200 people), and local residents are all elated.

The day’s event will be from 9:30am through 3pm, and the series of activities will include the embankment completion ceremony, the blessing ceremony cum rehabilitation of land, the Sow Hope – Protect Land activity, the HOPE strength + Driftwood Art Park landscape display, the flower Embankment charm reproduction, the bike paths sightseeing tours, the healthy market and other diverse displays of local agricultural products and performances of teams, which aim at exposure through crowds and media and which will introduce local agricultural products and tourism and put the leisure industry at a good starting point.
