Typhoon Morakot Dawn Park Demonstrates New Power of Industrial Reconstruction at Aboriginal Industry Expo

2011-11-07

The Aboriginal Industry Expo will be hosted from November 4th to 7th at the Taipei City Flora Expo Park’s Expo Dome. The public will be able to experience a wonderful array of aboriginal culture free of charge! In collaboration with the Council of Indigenous Peoples (CIP), the Executive Yuan’s Morakot Post-Disaster Reconstruction Council set up a Typhoon Morakot Dawn Park at the specialty industry area of the R.O.C. Centennial – Aboriginal Industry Expo. The area tells the story of industrial development of tribes while exhibiting and selling intricate products from aboriginal regions. The hope is to show the results of tribal industrial reconstruction post-Typhoon Morakot through this exhibition, and how the preservation of tribal culture and reconstruction process has transformed the region anew. This exhibition also welcomes individuals, corporations, and private organizations which have aided or shown concern for post-Morakot reconstruction efforts to sign the Love Confirmation Card at the expo, and supports community residents establishing product sales channels through concrete action for sustainable development of tribal specialty industries.

In the pre-expo press conference on November 3rd, Minister Sun Ta-chuan of the Executive Yuan’s Council of Indigenous Peoples (CIP) stated that, this year, the CIP has expanded the scale of the Aboriginal Industry Expo and attempted to make preparations from an industry perspective by combining the expo with performances and promotional events. Consolidated marketing for aboriginal industries is also being conducted in the form of an exhibition in order to establish a platform where tribal economy and industrial exhibition and sales meet, to promote aboriginal industries and stimulate prosperous aboriginal economies.

Deputy CEO Chern Jenn-Chuan of the Executive Yuan’s Reconstruction Council also stated that various post-Typhoon Morakot reconstruction tasks have been completed successfully in stages. With hard work and effort from all sources, the reconstruction region now has a completely new look and concrete results are also gradually emerging from industrial reconstruction. In addition to the various industrial reconstruction results exhibited in the Typhoon Morakot Dawn Park, the Reconstruction Council has also worked actively to increase international visibility of industries in aboriginal regions. This includes recommending Taiwan specialty industries to business events abroad, along with other international events. For example, unique cultural creative craftsmen were arranged to attend the 2011 Macau Business Expo in late October, and they performed outstandingly by attracting the attention of many people from other nations. Also, the Reconstruction Council will aid the Taipei Representative Office in the EU to participate in the Brussels Travel Expo so that Taiwanese aboriginal industries have a chance to shine on the international stage.

Deputy CEO Chern went further to state that in order to aid industrial revival in the reconstruction region and stimulate local economies, nine Typhoon Morakot Specialty Produce Promotional Sales events were hosted in metropolitan areas to the north, center, and south of Taiwan from 2009 to 2011. Sales totaled more than NT$22 million, which helped solve the issue of specialty produce sales from aboriginal regions during flood periods. In terms of travel promotion, the True Care Bus (12 tour routes in 2010, 16 tour routs in 2011) was planned and organized to accommodate the special resources available in reconstruction areas. The Morakot Reconstruction Area Travel Handbook was also published on October 6th to offer a complete selection of 23 specially selected packaged tour itineraries in the 7 counties and cities which lie in the reconstruction region (of which 17 are routes in aboriginal regions).

Deputy CEO Chern also added that the Reconstruction Council has initiated Project Pulami (which means bountiful harvest in the language of the Paiwan tribe) on October 28th to help the permanent housing industry take off. The hope is to combine public and private departmental resources within a short amount of time and achieve the goal of “bringing people in communities and marketing tribal industries” within this stage and strengthen the promotion of Colorful Sustainable Communities. All are welcome to travel within the reconstruction areas to contribute to the new look of reconstruction areas and aid development of local specialty industries. This even will be held over a four day period, starting on November 4th. Those who are interested in attending should definitely visit Typhoon Morakot Dawn Park and sign the Love Confirmation Card so that we can pool the energy of our love to cheer on the development of tribal industries!
