2010-06-25

With the joint efforts of the Directorate General of Highways of MOTC and the Forest Bureau of COA, today (the 25th) the Taiwan 18th Provincial Highway officially opens to traffic for large buses to Alishan Forest Recreation Area. Premier Wu Den-yih of the Executive Yuan led Minister Mao Chi-Kuo of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, the CEO of the Morakot Post-Disaster Reconstruction Council Lin Join-sane, and Deputy Executive Director Chen CEO Chern Jenn Chuan to attend the opening ceremony and the Alishan forest railway locomotive resumption activities.

Premier Wu spoke of Alishan as a world-class tourist attraction, and the government will spend more money and manpower to improve the environment, to reproduce the elegance and prosperity that it once enjoyed, and to continue to attract domestic, Japanese and Mainland tourists, thereby stimulating the domestic tourism industry. Premier Wu and other guests joined Magistrate Chang Hwa Kuan of Chiayi County, General Director Yen Jen-The of Forestry Bureau, Director General Janice Lai of Tourism Bureau of MOTC, Director General Wu Menfen of the Directorate General of Highways of MOTC, and deputy representative of the Japanese Interchange Association Tanaka Masami and other guests at the entrance to the Alishan Forest Recreation Area, where they officially pressed the button declaring the resumption of traffic for buses.

Premier Wu stressed that the Government will invest more money and effort in the future to improve the environment, making Alishan a convenient, safe, but also fun and comfortable place to visit. In addition, a cable car will also be included in future planning, where a proper section and place will be selected for the development of 2-3 km of a short-distance sightseeing cable car. In addition to attracting domestic tourists, it will hopefully also attract Japanese and Mainland tourists to come to Alishan. The Tourism Bureau will grasp the opportunity of the August Round Table Meeting in Mainland China to promote tourism in Alishan.

To stage a strong promotion and publicity effort of this major reconstruction result, the Chiayi County Government planned a 10,000 person, "NT$1300 per person, fall in love with Alishan " travel package, providing two days and one night of accommodation, souvenirs, and other benefits and discounts, hoping to attract visitors and reproduce the glorious past of Alishan.

Premier Wu then went to the Alishan Forest Railway Station Resumption Ceremony. Overcoming all difficulty, the Forestry Bureau announced the resumption of services of the Zhushan and Shenmu Lines.
