Morakot Reconstruction Documentary Aired in Macao

2013-03-11

Macau Cable TV began airing a complete series of Morakot documentaries produced by the Morakot Post-Disaster Reconstruction Council on Channel 1 on March 9, 2013. The series will run for three weeks and will be shown at 7:30PM every Saturday and Sunday. According to the Macao Daily News, Macau Cable TV will begin combining Phoenix Satellite TV, MASTV, Lotus TV and Zhuhai TV broadcasts in March to provide the audience with an all-new news platform for news from China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
The Morakot Post-Disaster Reconstruction Council (MPDRC), stated that the Macau Cable TV is planning to air the following six Morakot post-disaster reconstruction films: New Kaaluwan (winner of the 1st Cloud Leopard Award), Tanaiku Reborn (chosen as supplementary elementary school teaching material), Old Songs Resung: New Taiwu Elementary School (Best Interpretation of Traditional Music of 2012 Golden Melody Awards in Taiwan), New Homeland  and Building a New Homeland (documentaries on the permanent housing concept and construction process), and Industrial Reconstruction at New Lijia (documentary on how TSMC and other well-known companies helped to fund industrial reconstruction).

MPDRC emphasized that the international community is now paying more attention to prevention, response and reconstruction of major natural disasters. This has led to more international exchange on disaster response and reconstruction experiences. MPDRC is now working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to conduct international exchanges for sharing these experiences. Taiwan's experience is also being shared with the people of China, Hong Kong and Macao through a variety of channels as well. The sharing of reconstruction experience also serves as a way of being accountable to Typhoon Morakot post-disaster supporters and donors.

According to the Reconstruction Council, it organized the "Morakot Post-Disaster Reconstruction Documentary Touring Exhibition and Sharing of Reconstruction Experience Event" between December 2012 and January 2013 at four locations in northern, central and southern Taiwan. A total of 22 sessions were held in Taiwan as part of the touring exhibition. These sessions attracted a total of 4,633 people and achieved a satisfaction rating of 96%. Up to 92% of the people also gained a better understanding of the reconstruction process through the films, 85% expressed their interest in touring the disaster areas and 81% expressed their satisfaction with Morakot reconstruction. These showed that the general public was satisfied with the reconstruction experience and results. The Reconstruction Council is now planning to continue the sharing and passing down of the reconstruction experience between March and July as part of engineers’ training program.
