旗山糖廠建於1908年，並修築旗尾線鐵路連接縱貫線鐵路，運送甘蔗及白糖；旗山生產的香蕉，多送至高雄港三號碼頭(今香蕉碼頭)外銷日本，而有「香蕉王國」的封號。美濃菸業在1960年代達到鼎盛，為重要的經濟來源，造就美濃「博士之鄉」的美譽。內門適合種植刺竹，當地編的竹簍，是綑包農產品的好材料。
The Cishan Sugar Factory was built in 1908, and the Ciwei Line was built to connect to the North-South Railroad to transport sugarcane and sugar. Bananas from Cishan are usually sent to Pier No.3 at Kaohsiung Port ("Banana Pier"), so Cishan is also known as the "Banana Kingdom." The tobacco industry in Meinong bloomed in the 1960s and became a major financial source for education, giving Meinong the name of "Home of PhDs." On the other hand, Neimen is perfect for growing thorny bamboo, which is used to make bamboo baskets that are perfect for packing produce.
