Detour to Shuishalian, Encounter with the Paper Dome

Puli Station

The Paper Dome church in Taomi Community, Puli Township was built by Takatori Catholic Church using paper tubes in 1995, after the Great Hanshin Earthquake. In 2005, it was taken down and relocated to where it is now, as a symbol of relationship between Taiwan and Japan. Puli is in the geographical center of Taiwan and blessed with great water, which was used to grow agricultural products and to ferment alcohol. Freeway No.6 was completed in 2009, and since the areas around Puli and Yuchi were called Shuishalian (or Sazum in the indigenous language) in the Qing Dynasty, the highway adopted the same name and became the Shuishalian Freeway.
