The Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit in the Kaohsiung metropolitan area started operation in 2008, and Formosa Boulevard Station is where the red and orange lines meet. The street-level exits, based on "praying hands" and using metal truss frames to show the MRT's advanced technology, were designed by Japanese architect Shin Takamatsu. The "Dome of Light" in the lobby of the station is a piece of public art designed with the idea of the elements: water, earth, light and fire. Formosa Boulevard Station won the FIABCI - Taiwan Real Estate Excellence Award in 2009.
